Reunion: Bar Louie (Updated)

Near the convention center is a mall (Anaheim Garden Walk) with a bunch of restaurants and bars. Jake suggests one called "Bar Louie".

Also, that night is a home game at Angel's Stadium, hopefully that will take out some of the evening bar traffic!

Bar Louie Anaheim
321 W Katella Ave # 212
Anaheim, CA 92802

Those who arrive early before the service (it's at 6.30 in the ballroom of the HIlton) may want to meet before hand in the bar in the atrium of the Hilton hotel. A lot of you know each other but some of us are unknonws. So tell the hostess you are a Friend of Jake's, so she can direct us to each other.

On this map, the HIlton is (A), Bar Louie is (B). Click for larger view.

Thanks for the legwork on this get together. I am staying at the HIlton - our deputation is booked in there.

Just wanted to point out that it is "Bar Louie," as in "Louie Crew", a well known Episcopalian.

The link for more info is here:

http://www.restaurants-america.com/barlouie/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewLocation&locID=40

It is in a mall? How can they have a patio with seating for 100?

In their info, they mentioned something about being close to the stadium, which means a home game could be a negative.

Is anyone on the ground out there? That would really help.

Thanks for launching this IT. Looking forward to it!

As long as we don't "bar" Louie!!

It's a big open-plan SoCal mall, based on streetmap views in Google. I'ts 0.7m from the hotel.

The stadium is about 2 miles further east. I know there are closer venues for the ball fans (besides, this is southern California. They aren't going to walk 2 miles! ;-)

Also there are other restaurants in the same mall that come up on Google.

I am about 1.5 hours out of Anaheim (I must love you people; this means I can't stay too late however) so it's not really easy for me to check it out in person. I don't know if anyone else is closer?

Maybe I can get my partner to come along post Integrity HE. It would be fun.

All are welcome, this is an inclusive meet-up.

Bring her along --- the more the merrier.

Heck, double heck, how I would love to dabble in the occult with the notorious Episcopal Church Friends of Jake BLOGGERS. I was actually in the very same Convention building at the exact same time last year (and will be at the same convention in another city this year at the exact time)...I´ll lift my Diet Pepsi in honor of all of you and sing Louie Louie as you meet in Anaheim (btw, there are lots of good restaurants around that area...tons within walking distance of the Hilton and the Convention Center...also, good Chicken/Cesar Wraps at the fastfood Convention Counters inside the Center).

I always like Tony Romas which is nearby too (and we don´t have South of the Border except in Puerto Rico).

Oh...the ¨mall¨ is a street that has the Hilton on oneside (huge Hilton) and other businesses on the otherside...all T bone (perpendicular) to the Convention Center itself...really, it´s ALL very close and well located (as I remember)...the other, lots of various restaurants, are within walking distance (with furthest being about a six-eight block walk)...Disneyland is accross the Street but the property is HUGE but there didn´t seem to be traffic issues last year. We all took a van to Knotts one late afternoon to eat at the ¨Chicken House¨(of my youth/no need to buy entrance to Knotts ticket to eat there). There was no major shopping mall nearby except for South Coast Plaza/Costa Mesa (which was about 1-2 hour away but fabulous for the fashion starved) but there is a Target very nearby and a Walgreens not far and a Wal-Mart too. All I really remember about dinners, when I was exhausted, was, that I think they were all good quality, well-priced and there is a Outback nearby too and several fishouse type specialty spots. Remember, there will be kids around their as it´s a family destination/Disneyland. A little later is better (if you´ve got the strength). There is a Mall in Santa Ana too but it´s a little further away.

Costa Mesa, South Coast Plaza is ONE HALF HOUR..not 1 to 2 hours away...(maybe less if you´re speedy).

THanks for the suggestions, Leonardo.

I can't wait for this party. It will be where all the 'cool kids' meet after the IntegrityUSA gathering.

Isn't that a hoot - when the queers become 'the cool kids'?

Waaaahhhhoooo!

Keep remembering stuff:

There is a Starbucks INSIDE the Convention Center. There is a excellent Ice Cream Specialty Shoppe Restaurant (zillion flavors) behind the Convention Center, next to a sprawling Hotel/Motel on the CORNER of West Katella and Disneyland entrance.

I understand that that should be opening night for The Brüno Movie, or is that too much for one evening?

IT said...

well, if we want tiime to socialize after the integrity service, it might be a bit much, unless you want to catch a late show. I have to drive 1.5 hours to get home after the meetup so no movies for me.

Y'all are killing me. I wish I could be there.

IT said...

We do too, Mimi.

Tom Sramek, Jr. said...

So, are there "Friends of Jake" buttons or something?

Ann said...

Yes we do wish you could be there

Ann said...

We need t-shirts or buttons - will see what I can do from Cafe Press.

Ann said...

Should we have it with Friends of Jake, OCICBW and Grandmere Mimi?

June Butler said...

No, Ann, no t-shirts featuring me. You know what a shrinking violet I am.

Just for fun, I checked prices on flights, and they are not cheap. And then there would be the cost of lodging, and I'm sad to say that I find it really difficult to share a room with anyone but Grandpère.

I think it's a Jake's gang meet-up. Madpriest and Mimi and their followers fall under that broad umbrella, but I see Jake's place as really the beginning of it for so many of us, so I'd like to see us honor that specifically, rather than any current blog.

Of course, YMMV.

Possible slogans

Friends of Fr Jake

Fr Jake's Worldstoppers

I stopped the World with Fr Jake

And of course they should have the logo

June Butler said...

IT, I agree. It all began at Jake's.

Ann said...

uhoh -- just got the memo -- sorry

IT said...

Whatever!

Ann said...

Did get the logo in the center.

Allie said...

So now I have three events at bar Louie... great...

June Butler said...

I am going to be in that number
When the saints go marching in.

See Wounded Bird.

Not blogwhoring. Just letting y'all know.

Elizabeth Kaeton said...

Please, let's keep this Friends of Jake, shall we? That's where it all began for me. That's why I'm in. I love the Mickey Mouse logo or Jake's logo.

Ann said...

Too late Elizabeth - the buttons are made here, also magnets as keepsakes. Make your own buttons if you want something else.

Hi Elizabeth,
This is a community that began with Jake's, and as far as I'm concerned, this is about his offspring. (I'm a geneticist, I think that way). Buttons and logos are fun to play with, but optional. Me, I'll just be the one with the Friends of Jake sign! The only requirement and expectation here is that one is a friend of Jake's!
